Francesco Zorzi is happy to invite you to the second exhibition of installed works in his atelier in Amsterdam, ‘We Are Multitudes. We Are One’, a colorful constellation of paintings, drawings, and sculptural works created over the last two years. Here, color becomes a dialogue between human interiority and exteriority — inner life and the outer world — a resonance between what is felt and what is seen.
The works reflect on the dualistic nature of reality, both as matter and light, and on perception as consciousness unfolding — at once deeply personal and profoundly collective. Mirrors are used as symbols for the experience of the physical world, but also refer to the image of the self — both a reflection and a result of our perceptions, as individuals and within the collective space.
While colors in the artworks are physical and tactile (wax crayons and spray pigments), they reveal color itself as abstract and immaterial — a unified, boundless, and dynamic field of particles vibrating or frequencies resonating together. Each artwork is a still frame of the subjective experience of awareness, influenced directly by the consciousness and free will of the artist, in constant exchange with the perception and interpretation of the viewer.

The short film ‘MACULA/The Theater is in the Mind ’ (2019) is projected alongside the new works on show, in a parallel dialogue around the themes of perception, individuality, and collectivity present in both ‘We Are Multitudes. We Are One’ and the MACULA project.
After MACULA was interrupted in 2021 with the loss of his mother, FZ’s search for a new personal and artistic direction led him to continue expanding on the same themes: from vision and perception toward consciousness and the nature of reality itself.
The research and body of work from MACULA — its paintings, installations, and sculptures — form an essential step in FZ’s evolution, marking the beginning of an ongoing journey that continues in all later explorations.

Reflections, colors and blur, fragmentation of lights and shadows: a dialogue between some of the works of MACULA with the new body of works of in ‘We Are Multitudes. We Are One’.

We Are Multitudes.

Each work can be seen as a still frame of FZ’s inner worlds, expressed through color — the expression of his consciousness and free will. The way colors interact with each other reflects both their physical nature — how pigment and frequency blur, blend, and overlap — and the artist’s interior landscape, emotions, and feelings, always shaped in dialogue with the external conditions of the world in which they are immersed.
It also can be seen as a snapshot of just one of infinite perceptions of a single event seen from one of many nodes of the field, with a different perspective but within the field itself.
Everything connects, interacts, and changes endlessly. Each of us is an entire world, hidden behind the idea of one self — a node of awareness in a boundless field where limits and divisions are only mental constructs. As the Italian writer Luigi Pirandello wrote, we are ‘One, No One, and One Hundred Thousand ’ — all at once.
This dialogue happens not only between ourselves and others, but also among the many versions of ourselves. Every encounter paints a new portrait: others project their idea of who we are, while we do the same in return. Each exchange becomes a mirror, reflecting and reshaping identity.
FRANCESCO ZORZI (Italy) Francesco Zorzi is a multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam working with a wide variety of mediums, informed by his background in design, his love for the world of Color and his fascinations into the mechanics of vision, perception and interpretation of reality. His works are united by the quest for the qualities of what makes us ‘human’, reflecting on how we interact with what’s in front of our eyes, how we make sense of it and how we explore the inner-worlds we create with it. His explorations - whether dissecting Colors or Shapes - can be seen as an ongoing study on the structure of their inner components and the interaction between each other. These abstract configurations are like fragments of a kaleidoscope in perpetual movement without a beginning or an end, offering the viewers a moment of reflection, new playgrounds for exploration and wonder. His visually ambiguous wax-crayons works, are an investigation on Color in itself: its visual perception as well as the duality of Color as both lightwave and matter. Each artwork is the result of a complex layering of various wax-crayons sticks of different tones, applied next to and on top of each other, creating an ever evolving, ever pulsating flux of constant dynamic movement. The appearance of their colors and the structure of their wax influence directly the ways they interact and ‘talk’ with each other, mutually attracting or repelling one another. They can create harmony or tension. Sometimes they blend and dance together at different speed, in an homogenous flow or in multiple streams and directions. Sometimes they clash and come into conflict with one another. These brightly-hued abstract artworks are as much about color as they are of about emotions altogether: on one side they explore the phenomenological impact color has on human perception (seen from the point of view of the viewer being in front of the artworks); on the other they interact with the ineffable emotions and sensations guiding the process of mixing the crayons (seen from the point of view of the artist producing the artworks). The colors of each artwork are immersive, physical and tactile, just like the process of its creation: Ethereal and vibrating but also palpable and present at once.
