Colors/Matter (C/M) is an open framework for an ongoing exploration of the connections between (color) frequencies and matter, through various tactile mediums and techniques.
Subjects to these artworks are abstract compositions, and personal visual interpretations on FZ's ongoing research on scientific matters, quantum physics and particle theory.
C/M is a continuous exploration of diverse applications that are united by the ibridation of FZ’s background in applied arts with the fine art tradition, his interest in scientific knowledge and his obsession with color.
The combination of color and materiality is inspired by the ambiguous aspects of the wave/particle duality in contemporary scientific discoveries in which reality happens simultaneously as a duplexity of lightwaves and matter.
At the present time FZ is experimenting with:
- Wax-crayons on MDF boards, ceramic, canvas and paper (Vibrations)
- Ceramics and synthetic clay (Tactilities)
- Color/diffusion filters and Faux Stained Glass (ThroughLight)

‘Vibrations’ is an open series of artworks using wax-crayons on paper, MDF boards, ceramics and canvas.
Different colors are applied next to each other, creating harmony or tension. Sometimes they blend and dance together at different speed, in an homogenous flow or in multiple sreams and directions. Sometimes they clash and come into conflict with one another.
Inspired by the vibration of particles and the force fields they create when they interact with each other, in a huge ever pulsating flux of constant dynamic movement, mutually attracting or repelling one another, ‘Vibrations’ is also an ode to Color itself, in all its frequencies and hues, the way they can possibly combine and all the feelings they evoke.
These brightly-hued abstract artworks are about color and emotions altogether: on one side they explore the phenomenological impact color has on human perception (seen from the point of view of the viewer being in front of the artworks); on the other they interact with the ineffable emotions and sensations guiding the process of mixing the crayons (seen from the point of view of the artist producing the artworks).
The colors of each artwork are immersive, as immersive is the process of its creation: ‘physical’ and ‘tactile’ both in the way FZ smudges and layers the wax-crayons on the surface of its artworks, and in the way colors appear to the eyes while looking at them.
Ethereal and vibrating but also palpable and present at once. 

‘Tactilities’ share similarities with ‘Vibration’ in the way intuition and play constitute the main ingredients for the creation of the artwors in both series.
However with ‘Tactilities’ FZ experiments and manipulates actual tactile materials (ceramics, synthetic clays, etc.) in order to convey movement and dynamism, in a more sculptural and three-dimensional way.
The process behing these artworks is spontaneous and very ‘physical’: ideas and compositions’ potential are explored through the interaction of the hands with the material itself, sometimes bending it and guiding it, sometimes being guided and inspired by it.

‘ThroughLight’ is a series of works that focuses the attention on the qualities of colored light when passing through physical materials.
Each artwork is like drawing with light, playing with transparencies, juxtappositions and layering of tactile materials in order to create an impalpable visual sensation created by light itself.
Inspired by the classic and contemporary tradition of stained-glass window making, FZ is experimenting with various materials (color/diffusion filters, acrylic sheets, mastic etc.) to produce enigmatic works in which light is the ultimate protagonist to explore the nuances of human perception.
